Natural Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) in the oil and gas industry

چکیده
Radioactive materials which occur naturally and expose people to radiation widely, are known by the acronym 'NORM'. Exposure NORM is often increased human activities, eg burning coal, making using fertilisers, oil gas production.
Many natural contain radioactive elements (radionuclides). The earth's crust constantly leaks radon into our atmosphere. However, while level of individual exposure from all this usually trivial, some issues arise regarding regulation, also perspective in relation what classified as waste. The radionuclides identified streams belong decay chains occurring primordial 238U 232Th. Analyses many different fields show that solids found downhole surface structures production facilities do not include gas
These mobilized reservoir rock contains oil, formation water.
Formation water radium isotopes 226Ra series, 228Ra 224Ra 232Th series. All three isotopes, but their parents, thus appear co-produced with or gas. 228Th radionuclide sometimes detected aged sludge. This causes precipitation sulphate carbonate scales. mixed stream carries noble 222Rn generated through 226Ra. It would concentrations 226Ra, scales sludge range less than 0.1 Bq/g up 15 000 Bq/g. Generally,
activity lower scales, opposite applies 210Pb. deposition contaminated pipes vessels may produce significant dose rates inside outside these components. Maximum a few microsieverts per hour. In exceptional cases, measured directly on surfaces equipment have reached several hundred hour, about 1000 times greater normal background values due cosmic terrestrial radiation.

Naturally-Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM)
The main issue in view of NORM-impacted sites 1 is how such sites, e.g. radium contaminated sites, uranium liabilities, sites exploited for the mining of metals associated with NORM and wastes arising from industries processing or generating other kinds of NORM, are assessed and regulated. In view of the implementation of the new Basic Safety Standards (BSS), the regulations apply to the manage...
متن کاملNaturally-Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM)
Over the years there have been many occasions when it was asserted that coal-fired power stations emitted more radioactivity (from NORM) than was released anywhere in the nuclear fuel cycle. While having some basis in fact the claim is generally not correct now. Today the contention regarding NORM tends to be in relation to steel and other materials released from demolished industrial facilitie...
متن کاملA century of oil and gas exploration in Albania: assessment of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORMs).
The Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORMs) that are potentially generated from oil and gas extractions in Albania have been disposed of without regulations for many decades, and therefore, an extensive survey in one of the most productive regions (Vlora-Elbasan) was performed. A total of 52 gamma ray spectrometry measurements of soil, oil-sand, sludge, produced water and crude oil sa...
متن کاملIdentify blockchain technology strategies in the oil and gas industry
The purpose of the research is to identify blockchain technology strategies in the oil and gas industry. In this research, the mixed research method has been used. In the qualitative part of the research community, there were experts in the field of blockchain technology, 12 of whom were purposefully selected for in-depth interviews. Open and axial coding was used to analyze the data. The stati...
متن کاملNORM waste management in the oil and gas industry: the Syrian experience
This paper describes the Syrian experience with respect to Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) waste produced by the Syrian oil industry. Three main categories of NORM waste were identified. First, hard scales from decontamination of contaminated equipment and tubular that are considered to contain the highest levels of radium isotopes (Ra, Ra, Ra); this type of waste being current...
